Bio
Michael Baker's nonrepresentational sculptures have a generosity of form, depth and surface treatment that invites absorption and meditation. His work is collected by both residential and commercial clients and ranges in sizes appropriate for both garden settings and monumental sized pieces that personalize and give identity that sets a business apart from its neighbors.

"My process in developing a sculpture is a combination of designing through sketches and secondly, working with individual elements that I have constructed in my studio. Much of my work is done through exploration by working with these forms, orienting and re-orienting them until they "make sense" to me. Juxtaposing each form, one next to the other, both the positive and negative spaces begin to make their appearance and become very important in the finished sculpture. My sculptures are designed and developed as unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that are constructed primarily of stainless steel and treated to a textural finish that plays off of the sun to give a spectacular effect throughout the day."
"I am a self taught artist. My first awareness of large sculpture happened in the early '70's in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A move to Colorado and a welding class , led to an apprenticeship with a well known Colorado Sculptor…and the beginning of my own career as a sculptor."
From then to now…the exploration continues.
