Artist Statement

My current work is a compilation of various life inspirations such as architecture, the artist David Smith, a piece of scrap metal on the studio floor, an interest in geometric shapes and most importantly an inquisitive mind.

I begin with rough sketches, but throughout the process, exploration may take me in new directions.   The combining of constructed shapes in a new piece, along with how these shapes are arranged, determine the visual positive and negative spaces.  This seems to be my focus and my direction.

I fabricate similar forms but find the results are both connected in some cases and totally disconnected in others.  I find working in this direction leads to various “series” that are seen in my work.  There are some abstractions in my work and then, some pieces that are truly non-objective.

I find the actual process very personal and somewhat hard to describe and therefore leave interpretations to you, the viewer.
